our roots
Welcome to the learning farm: A legacy of Growth and community
Nestled in the Heart of Ithaca, NY, The Learning Farm is More Than Just a Farm – It's a Movement.
Founded by the visionary duo, Christa and Pete Núñez, The Learning Farm is a testament to the power of dreams and dedication. With roots on the farm stretching back to 2017 our farm stands as a beacon of hope, education, and community engagement.
Meet the Visionaries: Christa and Pete Núñez
Christa Núñez, an African American entrepreneur, educator, and passionate advocate for social justice, weaves her rich tapestry of skills into the fabric of our farm. With a focus on cooperative land governance and equitable food systems, Christa's work is dedicated to uplifting African diaspora communities through narrative-building, education, and food justice.
Pete Núñez, with his origins in the Dominican Republic and a childhood in Harlem, found his calling in the serene Redwood Forest of Northern California. His passion lies in nurturing the land and enriching the community through nature-engaged farming education. Pete's commitment to fostering healthy relationships and communication shines through his work with the youth, connecting them to the earth and to each other.
Our Mission: Nourishing Bodies, Minds, and Spirits
At The Learning Farm, we believe in the power of food to bring people together. Our mission is to provide the highest quality food and beverages, prioritizing the well-being of people and the planet. We celebrate the bounty of our local environment, cultivating joy, health, and lasting friendships through our sustainable practices.
Engage, Explore, and Grow with Us
Our farm is a haven for exploration and connection. Children and families are invited to delve into the wonders of nature, discovering their unique ties to the land and to our community. Through ecological study and hands-on experience, we discuss and implement practical solutions to the global challenges of food production.
We honor the legacies of agricultural pioneers like Fannie Lou Hamer and George Washington Carver, who paved the way for a more inclusive and enlightened approach to farming. Our practices are a tribute to their enduring vision.
Supporting Future Farmers: The 10% to Khuba International Initiative
Our commitment to growth and education extends beyond our fields. Through our 10% to Khuba International program, we support our sister non-profit organization in its mission to cultivate equitable, cooperative, and dignity-affirming farming models, with a special focus on youth engagement.
